Local employer Admiral Group has been recognised by the Welsh government for the high standard of health and wellbeing of its staff, through the Gold Corporate Health Standard award.

Run by the Welsh Government through Healthy Working Wales, the Corporate Health Standard (CHS) is the quality mark for workplace health promotion in Wales. The Standard recognises good practice and targets key preventable ill-health issues and the Health Challenge Wales priorities.

Admiral staff have donated over 2,500 Christmas presents to over 1,200 disadvantaged children in the Swansea area, through the Mr X Appeal. On average, all staff who took part donated at least two presents for their chosen child.

Local employer Admiral has come to the aid of St. John Cymru Youth Newport Division. The charity’s training aids were broken beyond repair so Admiral paid for brand new equipment costing £580.

Through their long running Community Chest Scheme, Admiral paid for a manikin family set and an anti-choking trainer, allowing the division to train volunteer members in vital lifesaving skills.

Stephen Marshall, who works in Admiral’s Claims department, and volunteers as a Cadet Officer for the charity, applied for the funds.

Local employer Admiral provided almost £500 to WISP (Welsh Integrated Sports Plan) JUDO so that children, no matter what their ability, could compete in a number of judo competitions across South Wales.

Through its long running Community Chest scheme, Admiral gave money towards the cost of a club competition, paying for medals and certificates for over 70 children and judo suits for participants who did not have one. These suits are now being used to kit out beginners to their classes and enable them to run sessions in local schools.

Local employer Admiral has given £500 to Downs-side Riding and Livery Centre in Penarth, enabling them to purchase new equipment essential for their horses’ wellbeing and the centre’s upkeep.

Sophie Vowles, who works in Admiral’s Claims department, applied for funds through the company’s Community Chest scheme. The money given was used to buy a number of new saddlecloths, yard forks, wheelbarrows and yard brooms. Downs-side Riding and Livery Centre is a family run business, which is located close to a country park with lakes.

Local employer, Admiral has provided funding to Cwmbran All Starz enabling the group to purchase equipment essential for their public performances and shows.

Alex Mayes, who works in Admiral’s Pricing department, applied to the company’s Community Chest scheme on behalf of the musical theatre group which provides acting, singing and dancing training for young people aged 9 to 19 years of age.

Table tennis player Paul Karabardak visited Admiral’s Swansea office to thank the local employer for donating over £500 towards his training equipment for the Rio 2016 Paralympics, and at the same time, took on staff at their preferred break time activity.

Paul’s brother, Huseyin Karabardak, works for Admiral’s Claims department and applied for the money through the company’s Community Chest Scheme. The money given was used to buy equipment, such as rackets and balls, essential for Paul’s strict six hours a day training regime.

Hosted by Business In The Community Cymru, the awards identify and celebrate businesses from across Wales that are making a positive impact in their communities, schools, supply chains and workplaces.

Admiral was named the winner of the Wellbeing At Work Award for its Ministry of Health (MOH) programme.

As a proud Welsh company, Admiral will be closing its Cardiff, Swansea and Newport offices early on Wednesday (6th July) to allow staff to enjoy the Wales v Portugal Euro 2016 semi final.

Staff in Admiral’s contact centres work shifts, with some due to finish at 10pm. However, due to the enormity of Wednesday’s game and how Wales’ journey has gripped the company, it was a straightforward decision to close at 7pm.

This will mean that over 600 staff get to leave the office early so they can get ready for kick off.

Local employer Admiral has recently donated over £500 to Barry based netball team Westend Ladies, enabling them to buy brand new kit.

The money Westend Ladies received went towards buying netball dresses for their A Team, which meant they only needed to raise further funds for the B team. 

Jenna Webb, who works for Admiral’s Marketing department, has played in the A team since 2008 and wanted to give something back to her netball club. This year she took on the role of Treasurer and was keen to see if Westend Ladies could benefit from her employer’s Community Chest Scheme.

Following receipt of regulatory approval, the Board of Admiral is pleased to announce the appointment of Justine Roberts as an independent non-executive director with effect from 17 June 2016.

Justine Roberts is the CEO and co-founder of internet company, Mumsnet.com, which has grown into the UK's biggest online network for parents. Justine has been responsible for the creation, strategic direction and overall management of Mumsnet, building it into one of the most recognisable internet brands in the UK.

Local employer Admiral has recently donated nearly £600 to Gorseinon and District Brass Band, enabling them to buy a brand new instrument for their regular performances to local charities. 

Thanks to Admiral’s Community Chest Scheme, the band have secured funding worth over £3,300 since 2012, all going towards the cost of good quality brass instruments, including two cornets, two baritones, two horns and a trombone.

Canine residents at Cardiff Dogs Home, who are walked regularly by Friends of the Dogs, are keeping dry and finding new homes thanks to local employer Admiral. 

The insurance provider has donated nearly £800 to the charity through its long running Community Chest Scheme.

Friends of the Dogs has over a hundred regular volunteer dog walkers who turn out in all weathers to walk homeless and abandoned dogs in their local community. Admiral’s money paid for twenty five weatherproof coats to the charity to help the dogs against the wind, rain and cold when they’re out walking.

The school used the money to buy fabrics and materials for costumes for their December ‘The Four Seasons’.  Nadine Moore, who works in Admiral’s Claims department, helps her sister Annette with the costumes.

Admiral Group plc ('Admiral' or 'the Group') confirms that the level of Capital Add-On to be applied to the Solvency II Standard Formula has been agreed with the Prudential Regulation Authority ('PRA').  The Add-On is consistent with the level calculated by Admiral and takes effect from 1 January 2016.

After accounting for an appropriate margin above the Group's capital requirement, Admiral expects to hold a level of surplus capital as it enters Solvency II.

Hundreds of Admiral staff from Cardiff, Swansea and Newport, have taken part in the Mr X Appeal, donating over 1,400 Christmas presents to local disadvantaged children.

This number is the highest ever donation from Admiral staff to this appeal, which has been co-ordinated in Admiral for over ten years by Angela Macdonald who works in the New Business department. 

The number of presents donated by Admiral to this appeal has grown over the years so she has recruited many little helpers throughout Admiral to support her, including colleague Lesley Rees.

This year the large Christmas tree that stands proudly outside Cardiff Castle will be kindly donated by Admiral.

The Cardiff-based insurance specialist stepped forward after it was agreed that Christmas trees would need to be funded by sponsorship due to the budget cuts the Council faces.

Admiral have come on board and agreed to support the costs to purchase, install and remove the tree.

With the money donated, the team have been able to buy new playing and training kit, now proudly wearing the Admiral logo on their shirts.

South Wales employer Admiral has donated over £800 through its Community Chest scheme to Superstars in the Making, a performing arts academy based in Barry, Cardiff.

Superstars in the Making is a not-for-profit academy, set up to provide high quality training in the performing arts to young people.

With the money donated, Superstars in the Making bought a good quality set for their upcoming show West Side Story, which is showing next week at the Memo Theatre, from August 20th to August 22nd 2015.

Local employer Admiral has donated over £500 to the Buzzy Bees nursery in Cwmbran, through their Community Chest scheme.

Gareth Edwards, who works in Admiral’s Claims department wanted to give something back to the nursery that his son has been attending for the last couple of years.

Community Chest provided the nursery with an outdoor kitchen, three tricycles, space hoppers, a large climbing frame and slide, plus a few other smaller items.

Local employer Admiral has donated nearly £800 to Christchurch Primary School in Swansea through its long running community chest scheme.

Peter Williams works in Admiral’s Customer Services department and his son Kieron attends the primary school. He said, “The yard in Kieron’s school is very small. It is in between residential housing and there are no grass areas at all. We wanted to breathe new life into the yard and the children got very excited about it.”

Admiral Group plc’s CEO Henry Engelhardt announced today that he has decided to step down from the CEO role in one year’s time.  He will be replaced as CEO by co-founder and current COO, David Stevens.

Henry has led Admiral since its creation in June 1991.  He has been the only CEO the company has had.  David joined Admiral in August 1991 prior to Admiral’s January 1993 launch.  He is currently Group COO and has been CEO of the UK insurance business since 2008.

After careful consideration, the Board of Admiral Group Plc does not intend to issue IMSs in the future and will not, therefore, issue one in April 2015.

Local employer Admiral has donated over £1,000 to the Lost Souls Sanctuary, near Newport, through its Community Chest scheme.

The Lost Souls Sanctuary was founded by Anne Lewis in 2011 as a home for life for dogs who have been abused, or who have behavioural problems and have nowhere else to go. Anne said “We provide a home for these dogs that often come to us badly traumatised, both physically and mentally. My vision is to turn this around and create a happily ever after safe place for all of them.”

The Welsh Rugby Union has signed the biggest shirt partnership deal in its history, with Welsh-based FTSE 100 company Admiral.

Admiral’s logo is already emblazoned across the chests of Wales’ senior national stars, and has been since November 2010, but a new partnership has now been agreed until 2017.

The partnership has also seen Admiral extend their support to the senior Wales women’s side which will now also carry the Admiral logo on their playing strip until 2017.

The company was also given a special recognition award for being in the list every year since it began fifteen years ago, the only company to achieve this, and CEO Henry Engelhardt was named Best Leader for the second year running.

Local employer Admiral has donated nearly £500 to buy baby safety equipment to help families in Cardiff, through the charity Home-Start.

Home-Start helps families in all sorts of situations, such as homelessness, domestic abuse, isolation, poverty and drug or alcohol addiction. The volunteers step in to help with the children, providing much needed advice and support to the parents, as well as giving them equipment the families cannot afford.

Sam, along with George North, Mike Phillips, Hallam Amos, Paul James and Luke Charteris joined Admiral’s CEO Henry Engelhardt to mark the official opening of the company’s headquarters, Tŷ Admiral. Representatives from many of the organisations involved in the building, including the developers Stofords, attended the event.

Admiral, which has moved into new offices in Cardiff and Newport, alongside its established offices in Swansea, is now looking to fill a variety of positions across all three sites. The roles are not limited to Admiral’s contact centres but also the IT department and the company’s law firms.

Glantawe Theatre Company in Ystradgynlais, near Swansea, received much needed equipment just in time for their January pantomime, thanks to a donation from local employer Admiral.

Becci Thomas, who works in Admiral’s Renewals department, has been a member of the Glantawe Theatre Company for ten years and taken part in over fifteen shows. The theatre company could not raise enough money to buy good quality sound and lighting equipment, but Becci knew that she could apply for funds through Admiral’s Community Chest Scheme.

Hundreds of staff at local employer Admiral have once again taken part in the Mr X Appeal, donating over 1,000 Christmas presents to disadvantaged children throughout the Swansea area.

Signing their cards “With love from Father Christmas”, each staff member who donates a gift, gets given the first name, gender and age of a child who would otherwise go without a Christmas present. There is no minimum or maximum spend and staff members are very charitable, in fact many donated large gifts, such as tablets, games consoles and sports equipment.

More than 100 members of staff at Welsh employer Admiral have so far signed up to run the City of Newport Half Marathon.

Admiral’s back on board for the second year as sponsor for the event, organised by St David’s Hospice Care, which takes place on Sunday 1st March 2015.

30 members of staff from the Newport office have signed up, along with 60 from Cardiff and a further 17 from Swansea.

It is the first year Admiral has been in the Big Company Category which is for organisations with over 5,000 members of staff, and it’s the company’s highest ever placing in this competition.

Admiral is also the only company to have featured as one of the Best Companies to Work For every year since the competition started 14 years ago.

Admiral Group has extended its existing UK Car Insurance reinsurance partnerships with Hannover Re, Mapfre Re, New Re and Swiss Re to at least the end of 2016.  There has been no material change to the cost or contractual terms of these arrangements.

The extended reinsurance arrangements are in addition to the current agreement with Munich Re (covering 40% of the UK business), which runs to at least the end of 2018.

Admiral Group has completed a further sale of a minority equity stake in its US car insurance comparison website, Comparenow.com.

Effective from 18 December 2013, Admiral retains 67.8% ownership of Comparenow.com with White Mountains Insurance Group owning 21.1% and Mapfre USA owning 11.1%. Terms of the purchase are confidential, but Admiral can confirm that there is no material impact on the Group's 2013 full year results.

Admiral Group has extended its underwriting arrangements with Munich Re for its UK car insurance business. The long-standing partnership allows Admiral to mitigate risk exposure while benefitting from profit commission.

Munich Re underwrites 40% of Admiral's UK car insurance business and the new agreement extends this from the end of 2016 until at least the end of 2018. The cost and contractual terms remain confidential, but the Group confirms that they provide a slight improvement to Admiral from 2017.

Admiral's new office in Newport has reached an important milestone marked by a 'topping out' ceremony marking the completion of the highest point of the project.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from Admiral Group, Scarborough Development Group, its funding partner Investec Bank, and Newport City Council. Four members of Admiral staff who will be working at the building, also attended.

Topping out marks the completion of the building's frame. Internal fitting out and final completion is scheduled for August 2014.

The Llanrumney United Ladies baseball team received the essential funding after team member Amanda Payne, who works in Admiral's Claims department, applied to the company's Community Chest scheme. The scheme provides funding for charities and organisations in which staff members or their families are involved.

After being contacted by RSPCA Newport Animal Shelter which was looking for donations and raffle prizes, four community spirited members of staff from the Admiral Claims department in Langstone Business Park organised a dog themed day of fundraising activities.

The group of six Admiral staff signed up to the marathon after a visit to the office by a representative from the charity Street Child who organise the marathon. Street Child’s aim is for the reduction of children living their lives on the streets of Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world.

Six employees from Admiral are gearing up for the race of a lifetime when they take part in the Sierra Leone Marathon next week.

The group of six Admiral staff signed up to the marathon after a visit to the office by a representative from the charity Street Child who organise the marathon. Street Child’s aim is for the reduction of children living their lives on the streets of Sierra Leone, one of the poorest countries in the world. The marathon will take place in the town of Makeni, the third largest city in Sierra Leone and where Street Child was set up in 2008.

South Wales based insurance specialist, Admiral Group has announced it is recruiting 236 new employees over the next three months; 108 based in Swansea, 88 based in Cardiff and 40 based in Newport. The new staff members will take the total number of employees at the company to 5,145.

Admiral needs the new recruits in call centre departments including Sales, Customer Services and Renewals, to provide service to its increasing number of customers.

St David's Primary School in Pontrhydyrun near Cwmbran, has received 15 refurbished computers from South Wales based employer Admiral, to help expand the school's IT curriculum.

Admiral donated the computers after receiving an email from Sara Arthur, who is a governor at the school, asking if Admiral had any unwanted computers available, that the school could have. Ben Moriarty who works in Admiral's Recruitment department received the email and set the ball rolling, and before long, the school had received delivery of and installed 15 refurbished computers for its pupils to use.

Admiral Group has extended its existing UK Car Insurance reinsurance partnerships with Hannover Re, Mapfre Re, New Re and Swiss Re to at least the end of 2015. There has been no material change to the cost or contractual terms of these arrangements.
The extended arrangements are in addition to the current co-insurance agreement with Munich Re (covering 40% of the UK business), which runs to at least the end of 2016.

A primary school choir from Newport have a smart new look for their performances after receiving matching t-shirts thanks to a donation by local employer, Admiral.
Somerton Primary School received funding from Admiral after Gareth Selfe, who works in the Communications department, applied to the company's Community Chest scheme. The scheme provides funding for charities and organisations in which staff members or their families are involved.

A woman who works in Admiral in Swansea, is raising money for Cancer Research Wales by pledging to have her head shaved by colleagues. Angela Beale-Roberts, who works in Admiral's People Services department, has been receiving donations from across the company, with the person who donates the most, getting to shave Angela's head themself.

Angela originally set a fundraising target of £2,000 but thanks to the generous donations of Admiral staff, she has already received over £3,000. Admiral will also be contributing to the money raised by staff through its Community Chest Scheme.

Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Caerau, a Welsh language Primary school in Ely, Cardiff, has received funding from local employer Admiral to help expand the school's library of Welsh language books.

The School received funding after Terina Harris, whose son attended the school, applied to the company's Community Chest scheme which provides funding for charities and organisations in which staff members or their families are involved.

Staff from Admiral's office in Swansea have raised £1,966 for both the Welsh Air Ambulance Service and Brecon Mountain Rescue. Staff in the company's Sales department raised the money through a number of different events including; raffles, name the dog competitions, penalty shoot-outs and a sponsored walk where employees completed the eight mile Brecon Horse-shoe walk. Admiral matched the money raised by staff through its Community Chest Scheme.

Staff from across Admiral have raised over £2,500 for the charity, Hammer Out Brain Tumours which raises awareness of brain tumours and the needs of those affected by them.

Staff at Admiral's offices in Cardiff, Swansea and Newport wore bandanas for a day to show their support for colleague John Murray, from our Cardiff Sales office who is currently undergoing treatment for a brain tumour. John had previously overcome the illness in 2004, however he was recently told that it had returned in a more aggressive form which has left him with limited treatment options.

Car insurance has plummeted by £360 (13.6%) for drivers aged 17-20, but 2013 could see dramatic price rises after this December’s EU gender ruling. South Wales-based Admiral Group has taken a major step forward in the construction of its new headquarters in Cardiff city centre, with a ceremony to turn the first sod on the scheme.

Admiral CEO Henry Engelhardt was joined by Tony Nash, Director of the developer Stoford and Hector McAlpine from the construction company Sir Robert McAlpine Limited to mark the occasion.

Also on site were nine of Admiral’s longest serving members of staff who joined the company on its first day of business in January 1993.

Admiral today confirms that it has sold Chiarezza to BlackFin Assurance Courtage. As at the end of December 2011 Chiarezza had gross assets of £1.3 million.

Staff in Admiral's Newport office have raised £1,700 for Sports Relief by completing a 24 hour table tennis challenge.

11 members of staff from the Claims department in Langstone Business Park began their challenge at 7am on Friday 23rd March and only put their bats down at 7am the following morning.
After rallying support from colleagues, family and friends, the group raised more than £1,100 for the charity, with Admiral donating an extra £600 to match the amount given by employees, following the marathon ping pong event.

The Pontarddulais Football Club have some new kit thanks to local employer Admiral.

The senior team, who play in the first division of the Carmathenshire league, were in need of a new look. After three muddy seasons their old kit had been put through its paces and was more than ready for retirement.

Liz James-Mahoney, who works for Admiral, applied to the company's Community Chest and secured more than £500 for the club.

Cardiff City Council planning committee has resolved to grant planning consent to developer Stoford's plans for a prestigious 220,000 sq ft headquarter building for motor insurance business, Admiral Group. The decision is subject to any new information being registered with the Council by or on 9th June. The building will be built on the site of the former David Street car park, a designated development zone, on Bridge Street, close to St David's shopping centre.

Further to the announcement made on 7 December 2010 regarding entering into exclusive discussions, Admiral Group plc (“the Group”) confirms that it has now sold AdmiralDirekt, the Group’s car insurance operation in Germany, to Itzehoer Versicherung. The value of the gross assets disposed of is £4.4m (€5.2m).

The insurance contracts generated by AdmiralDirekt and underwritten by the Group in 2011 will be fully reinsured by Itzehoer. It is intended to transfer the insurance contracts for 2011 and prior years to Itzehoer subject to Court and Regulatory approval.

South Wales motor insurance specialist Admiral Group has announced plans to move into a new headquarters in Cardiff city centre.

The new office, which at 220, 000 sq ft will be the biggest pre-let office project ever seen in Cardiff, will be developed by Midlands-based property specialists Stoford. It will allow Admiral to potentially increase the number of people it employs in the capital to more than 3,000 in a single building.

The decision is still subject to satisfactory planning permission being granted by Cardiff City Council.

Rastreator.com launched at the end of March as one of the first car insurance price comparison sites in Spain. It is attempting to follow the highly successful footsteps of Confused.com in the UK.
