24 hour ping pong challenge raises £1,700 for Sport Relief
Staff in Admiral's Newport office have raised £1,700 for Sports Relief by completing a 24 hour table tennis challenge.
11 members of staff from the Claims department in Langstone Business Park began their challenge at 7am on Friday 23rd March and only put their bats down at 7am the following morning.
After rallying support from colleagues, family and friends, the group raised more than £1,100 for the charity, with Admiral donating an extra £600 to match the amount given by employees, following the marathon ping pong event.
Team manager Gavin Jones, who organised and took part in the event said, "We've been playing table tennis during breaks in the office for around two years and with Sports Relief coming up, we thought it was a great opportunity for us to do something fun to raise money for such a great cause.
"In order to raise as much money as possible we wanted to set ourselves a pretty big challenge and a 24 hour ping pong event certainly wasn't easy!"
As well as sponsoring the team, other Admiral Newport employees showed their support by wearing sportswear and taking part a XBox Kinect Sports Day with entrants donating £1 to compete in various events.
Employees in Admiral's sites in Cardiff and Swansea have also raised an additional £2,000 for the charity.
