Admiral bookmarks school library for funding

Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Caerau, a Welsh language Primary school in Ely, Cardiff, has received funding from local employer Admiral to help expand the school's library of Welsh language books.

The School received funding after Terina Harris, whose son attended the school, applied to the company's Community Chest scheme which provides funding for charities and organisations in which staff members or their families are involved.

Terina, who works in Admiral's People Services department in Cardiff, explains why she applied to the scheme, "In September 2012, the Welsh speaking Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Caerau and English speaking Pencaerau separated. This meant that Nant Caerau was left with a very limited number of Welsh language books for their pupils, however the funding from Admiral has meant the school has been able to offer its pupils a much wider selection of Welsh books.

"The funding has also helped another local organisation in the community, as the books were purchased from local Welsh book store 'Caban'. The staff and pupils were extremely grateful for the funding from Admiral's Community Chest scheme as it gave them a head start on expanding the library and has allowed the school to create a fantastic learning environment."
