Admiral funding instrumental for local brass band

Local employer Admiral has recently donated nearly £600 to Gorseinon and District Brass Band, enabling them to buy a brand new instrument for their regular performances to local charities.

Thanks to Admiral’s Community Chest Scheme, the band have secured funding worth over £3,300 since 2012, all going towards the cost of good quality brass instruments, including two cornets, two baritones, two horns and a trombone.

Hayley Jones, who works in Admiral’s Renewals department, applied for the funding. She has a close connection to the band, as her father in law is the founder and chairman, Redvers Jones.

Redvers said, “Hayley mentioned that Admiral supported various organisations so she suggested that we apply. I didn’t expect to receive anything but when we got the cheque it was amazing.”

He continued, “When I started the band, I was told that it would not prosper because it was difficult and expensive to set up, but against all odds we did it! The band now has fourteen full time members and is looking to start a beginner’s band, from ages eight to eighty, for anyone that is interested in learning an instrument.

“The instruments themselves are very expensive, which means funding is everything to us. We have received support from Admiral for over four years now, so they have been a huge part of our success and continued growth. Thank you so much!”

Admiral’s Community Chest scheme has been running for over ten years and gives thousands of pounds annually to local charities and organisations in South Wales.
