Admiral Grads help homelessness
Staff from local employer Admiral have raised more than £15,000 for homelessness charity - The Wallich, enough to fund a rough sleeper intervention team’s weekend provisions for one year.
The employees from Admiral’s Graduate Programme raised the funds through a number of fundraising events including a Christmas candy cane gram, bake sales, quiz nights, raffles and more. The graduates joined Admiral in September 2017 and charity work is encouraged as part of their role alongside getting involved in projects and placement rotation across a variety of business areas.
The group chose to support The Wallich, a charity that strives to prevent homelessness and provide support to those experiencing homelessness across Wales.
In total, the graduates raised a huge £15,600, beating their original target of £10,000. Through this fundraising alone, Admiral is now one of The Wallich’s top five corporate supporters.
Sophie Squibbs, one of the graduates said “Admiral identifies the need to support local charities and actively encourages its staff to get involved, so I was passionate to take up this opportunity when I joined the graduate programme. It has been a hugely rewarding experience to fundraise for The Wallich and give something back to our community. The generosity of staff was overwhelming and donations were made from staff in our Cardiff, Newport and Swansea offices”.
Mike Walmsley, corporate fundraising manager at The Wallich said, “It has been a pleasure working with the group to achieve their fundraising objectives and to develop core skills which will add genuine value to the business. The money raised is having an impact on the lives of the people we support throughout our projects in Wales. Admiral has raised the equivalent of funding one of our rough sleeper intervention team’s weekend provision for a year; it’s a fantastic piece of fundraising and hugely valuable to The Wallich and our work with vulnerable people”.
