Admiral pitches in to help Cardiff baseball team
A ladies baseball team in Cardiff is able to continuing competing in its league thanks to a donation from local employer, Admiral.
The Llanrumney United Ladies baseball team received the essential funding after team member Amanda Payne, who works in Admiral's Claims department, applied to the company's Community Chest scheme. The scheme provides funding for charities and organisations in which staff members or their families are involved.
The premier division baseball team was facing the possibility of disbanding mid-way through the season when their pitch fees more than doubled to £55 per game. Admiral's donation of £495 allowed the team to buy a book of pitch tickets which will cover ten games enabling them to play all their outstanding matches.
Amanda explains why she applied for funding on behalf of the team, "I have played for this team since leaving school and we have now made our way up to the premier division. The ladies league we play in used to have many more teams and divisions, however, due to rising costs many teams have since disbanded.
"The money we received from Admiral means our future is secure and we don't have worry about pitch fees for the rest of the season. Had we not received the help our players, some of whom are in full-time education, would have struggled to have afforded it on top of their subs, kit and equipment."
