Admiral supports local ladies rugby
Local employer, Admiral Group, have donated £500 in support of Gorseinon Ladies Rugby Team to help them buy a new team kit.
With the money donated, the team have been able to buy new playing and training kit, now proudly wearing the Admiral logo on their shirts.
Gorseinon Ladies rugby team was set up six years ago by local resident Rhian Lewis was after being told that girls could not play rugby! Since then, the team have proved their worth, working their way up from the development league to the WRU, division one, recently making it to the semi-final of the WRU shield. The team is part of Gorseinon Rugby Football Club, which is entirely run by volunteers and depends on a huge amount of support from friends and families.
Daniella who plays for the team and her dad Clive Warburton, who works in Admiral’s Claims department, applied for the money. Daniella said, “Until last year I had never played rugby before, but I was inspired by my dad playing, so I thought I would give it a go. When I scored a try in my second game, I knew I had found a sport and a team that I would love.”
The team was struggling to find funding for new kit, because competition was tough, as there are many teams applying for funding in the South Wales area. Due to Clive’s direct connection to the team through his daughter, he was able to apply to Admiral’s Community Chest scheme for the funds they needed.
The scheme has been running in Admiral for over ten years and so far in 2015 has given over £60,000 to local charities and organisations in South Wales.
Daniella said, “These new kits have brought a renewed spirit to the team and a much needed boost of energy! The kits look great and make us all feel great! Thank you Admiral!”
