The UK Committee for UNICEF (UNICEF UK) has received a generous donation from Welsh financial services company, Admiral, in support of its efforts to tackle the ongoing devastation being caused by COVID-19 in India.
Admiral, which employs 700 people in Delhi, has made a £1 million donation to UNICEF UK. The contribution will be used to ease the enormous strain on health and critical care facilities in Delhi and other affected states in India.

The students from Cefn Glas Infants School in Bridgend can once again perform and sing for their parents, thanks to local employer Admiral.

Over the next couple of months, over 100 colleagues from across the company have pledged to complete one million press ups in a bid to keep active and to help raise funds for Tŷ Hafan’s fit for the future refurbishment appeal.
25 members of staff from Admiral, have signed up to volunteer for Royal Voluntary Service, a national charity built on local volunteering, giving support to people to meet the needs of the day in the NHS and in our communities.
The volunteers will complete training in safeguarding, mental health and dementia awareness, before they are matched with an older person and begin weekly telephone calls to chat and check in with vulnerable people who are shielding themselves.

The employees from Admiral’s Active Community, an employee group set up to encourage staff to live a healthy lifestyle, organised the fundraising event and invited as many staff as possible to take part.
Local employer Admiral invited NoFit State Circus into their South Wales offices for exclusive performances.
The performance was organised thanks to Admiral’s sponsorship of NoFit State Circus and provided the opportunity for staff to experience circus entertainment at their desks.
NoFit State is a contemporary circus combining live music, dance, stage design and film with traditional circus skills. The office performers wowed employees by showcasing skills including acrobatics, juggling and humour across offices in Cardiff, Swansea and Newport.
21 members of Admiral’s Motor Underwriting department recently organised bingo and afternoon tea for the Whitchurch Social Club in Cardiff. The club is supported by national charity Royal Voluntary Service, and its 50 strong members and over 20 volunteers look forward to meeting every week to chat and swap stories.
Admiral’s Communications team spent an afternoon volunteering to upcycle furniture and make crafts at Handcrafted by Ty Hafan. The crafts made were sold to help raise vital funds for the charity.
These special workshops take place in the grounds of Ty Hafan’s hospice, overlooking the Bristol channel. Workshop participants can learn to sew, paint furniture, make jewellery or keyrings and create cards.

The Cozie Toes appeal was set up by Sharon Thomas in Admiral’s Claims department six years ago and the collection grows every year with more gifts donated. This year over 150 staff members from Admiral’s Newport office got involved and purchased gifts.
Hundreds of staff at local employer Admiral have taken part in the Mr X Appeal, donating over 1,600 Christmas presents to disadvantaged children throughout the Swansea area.
In the 60th year of the Mr X Appeal, Admiral staff have again broken their own record of the most presents donated by a local business.
There are 5,500 underprivileged children in and around the Swansea area who will wake up on Christmas morning without a present to open. The Mr. X Appeal aims to help a local child in need in a personal way at Christmas.
Members of the Admiral Inspire Choir visited St David’s Hospice Care to spread a little Christmas cheer.

A Caldicot gymnastics club can keep on competing thanks to local employer, Admiral.
Wye Gymnastics and Galaxy Cheerleading is a charitable organisation which strives to provide a centralised hub for the local community. Here, children and young people can participate in recreational activities and develop fundamental movement and social skills to build a better, brighter future. The club also competes in regional and national competitions.

Over the years, Admiral employees have been involved in many opportunities including team building activities, access to exclusive circus events and office pop up performances. These popular sponsorship benefits will continue as part the renewed partnership.
Over 200 Admiral staff gave their time and volunteered to help disabled children at Festival of Sport.
The festival takes place in August every year at Margam Park. It’s run by Port Talbot council, with support from Admiral, who has provided financial assistance and staff volunteers for over 15 years.
The event encourages children with disabilities to spend a week doing various activities including rugby, cycling, rock climbing, canoeing and archery, assisted by Admiral’s volunteers. This year they also had a visit from Welsh rugby player, Ellis Jenkins.
A team of Admiral staff raised over £6,500 for Ty Hafan, a local hospice for children, by completing the Welsh three peaks challenge, smashing their £3,000 target.
Getting up before the dawn on a stormy Saturday in June, a team of fifteen people from Admiral’s Claims department, set off to climb Wales’ highest mountain Snowdon. Through determination and team spirit, they reached the summit in a couple of hours.

The rebranded Admiral Play Together Programme is creative inclusive learning aimed at primary school pupils Year’s 4, 5 and 6 (key stage 2). The literal meaning is mini disability inclusion training and the 40-minute session covers a range of topics related to inclusive sport and disability.

This number is the highest ever donation from Admiral to the appeal and sees staff from all over the business taking part, including hundreds of presents donated from staff in Swansea, Cardiff and Newport.
312 staff members and counting from local employer Admiral have helped the Marrow for Marley appeal by joining the stem cell and bone marrow donation registry.
Admiral staff in Newport spent the day registering potential blood stem cell donors on behalf of the charity DKMS. The sessions encouraged colleagues to get involved in the fight against blood cancer.
Admiral has committed £400,000 to fund four charity projects in South Wales over the next two years.
Through its newly formed Ministry of Giving, the company will donate £100,000 over two years to four charities allowing them to fund tangible and sustainable projects in the cities where Admiral’s UK offices are based.

A school in Newport has had an outdoor makeover thanks to staff from Admiral.
Two business support teams joined forces and spent the day at High Cross Primary School in Rogerstone undertaking various jobs to revamp the school grounds.
Armed with paint, spades, a wheelbarrow and a big white van, the team of 23 insurance workers wood stained fences and sheds, spruced up planters and reinforced and erected the school’s fences.

With the Sunday September 16 event now fast-approaching, over 250 staff from Admiral Group are busy making their final preparations before taking part.
They’ll be among thousands racing in the main event, with 1k, 3k and 5k races for juniors also taking place on the day.
Other fun includes a 100-metre mascot dash outside St Helen’s that starts about 10 minutes after the main race.

Staff from local employer Admiral have raised more than £15,000 for homelessness charity - The Wallich, enough to fund a rough sleeper intervention team’s weekend provisions for one year.
The employees from Admiral’s Graduate Programme raised the funds through a number of fundraising events including a Christmas candy cane gram, bake sales, quiz nights, raffles and more. The graduates joined Admiral in September 2017 and charity work is encouraged as part of their role alongside getting involved in projects and placement rotation across a variety of business areas.

A newly formed theatre group in Cwmbran is putting on its first full performance at the Dolman Theatre in Newport city centre, with support from local employer Admiral Group.
Glass Ceiling Theatre, which has around 35 cast members aged between 18 and 35, is a musical theatre group. It formed in 2017 and its performance of The Wedding Singer at the Dolman Theatre is its first public show. The cast will perform with a live band from the Bristol area which has been paid for by Admiral.

Admiral, which has its headquarters in the city and employs over 6,400 people across south Wales, is sponsoring the winter and summer uniform for the 38 school crossing patrols and four mobile school crossing patrols around Cardiff.
October is Cancer Awareness Month and Admiral Group’s Ministry of Health (MOH) has joined forces with Tenovus Cancer Care, St Joseph’s Hospital in Newport and Public Heath Wales to raise awareness and provide advice and to support to its staff.
A group of Admiral employees recently attended Cardiff West Community High School to help transform the new school entrance for their pupils. The Head Teacher contacted Admiral to ask for some support as the entrance was looking tired and needed some tender loving care.
Admiral employee Lucas James completely shaved off all his long hair and beard to raise over £1,350 for Huggard Homeless Shelter in Cardiff.
Lucas, who works in the IT department, raised £676.03 in sponsorship from colleagues and Admiral’s Community Chest scheme matched the amount, so in total the charity received £1,352.06. Lucas’ colleagues all took turns to shave Lucas’ hair and beard.
Mental health charity Growing Space is helping more clients to grow and heal thanks to two generous donations from local employer Admiral.
Local employer Admiral has helped Labradors in Need raise hundreds of pounds by providing a generator for the charity to use at its fundraising events. The donation was provided through Admiral’s Community Chest scheme which has donated to hundreds of charities and community groups through applications from its staff.
Labradors is a UK-wide charity that looks after dogs that need to be re-homed for a variety of reasons, such as neglect. They organise foster care for the labradors while they find permanent homes for them through a thorough application process.
Disabled children are learning to dance with their friends at Ty Gwyn School in Ely, Cardiff, thanks to local employer Admiral.
Admiral donated over £950 to ballet classes run by Flamingo Chicks at Ty Gwyn School in Ely. Flamingo Chicks is a company that runs ballet classes for children of all abilities throughout the UK. The donation from Admiral paid for much needed sensory equipment for dance classes in Cardiff schools, such as feathers, bells and scarves, as well as staff uniforms and training.
A Swansea based under 6s football team has a brand new kit, thanks to local employer Admiral.
Plough Colts Under 6s, from Brynhyfryd, received nearly £300 for their kit after Michael Philips, who works in Admiral’s Claims department, applied to the company’s Community Chest Scheme. The scheme provides funding for charities, sports teams and organisations in which staff members or their families are involved.
The donation paid for kits for the whole team and some extra training equipment.
Local employer Admiral Group has been recognised by the Welsh government for the high standard of health and wellbeing of its staff, through the Gold Corporate Health Standard award.
Run by the Welsh Government through Healthy Working Wales, the Corporate Health Standard (CHS) is the quality mark for workplace health promotion in Wales. The Standard recognises good practice and targets key preventable ill-health issues and the Health Challenge Wales priorities.
Admiral staff have donated over 2,500 Christmas presents to over 1,200 disadvantaged children in the Swansea area, through the Mr X Appeal. On average, all staff who took part donated at least two presents for their chosen child.
Local employer Admiral has come to the aid of St. John Cymru Youth Newport Division. The charity’s training aids were broken beyond repair so Admiral paid for brand new equipment costing £580.
Through their long running Community Chest Scheme, Admiral paid for a manikin family set and an anti-choking trainer, allowing the division to train volunteer members in vital lifesaving skills.

Local employer Admiral provided almost £500 to WISP (Welsh Integrated Sports Plan) JUDO so that children, no matter what their ability, could compete in a number of judo competitions across South Wales.
Through its long running Community Chest scheme, Admiral gave money towards the cost of a club competition, paying for medals and certificates for over 70 children and judo suits for participants who did not have one. These suits are now being used to kit out beginners to their classes and enable them to run sessions in local schools.

Alex Mayes, who works in Admiral’s Pricing department, applied to the company’s Community Chest scheme on behalf of the musical theatre group which provides acting, singing and dancing training for young people aged 9 to 19 years of age.
Table tennis player Paul Karabardak visited Admiral’s Swansea office to thank the local employer for donating over £500 towards his training equipment for the Rio 2016 Paralympics, and at the same time, took on staff at their preferred break time activity.
Paul’s brother, Huseyin Karabardak, works for Admiral’s Claims department and applied for the money through the company’s Community Chest Scheme. The money given was used to buy equipment, such as rackets and balls, essential for Paul’s strict six hours a day training regime.
Local employer Admiral has recently donated over £500 to Barry based netball team Westend Ladies, enabling them to buy brand new kit.
The money Westend Ladies received went towards buying netball dresses for their A Team, which meant they only needed to raise further funds for the B team.
Jenna Webb, who works for Admiral’s Marketing department, has played in the A team since 2008 and wanted to give something back to her netball club. This year she took on the role of Treasurer and was keen to see if Westend Ladies could benefit from her employer’s Community Chest Scheme.
Local employer Admiral has recently donated nearly £600 to Gorseinon and District Brass Band, enabling them to buy a brand new instrument for their regular performances to local charities.
Thanks to Admiral’s Community Chest Scheme, the band have secured funding worth over £3,300 since 2012, all going towards the cost of good quality brass instruments, including two cornets, two baritones, two horns and a trombone.

Canine residents at Cardiff Dogs Home, who are walked regularly by Friends of the Dogs, are keeping dry and finding new homes thanks to local employer Admiral.
The insurance provider has donated nearly £800 to the charity through its long running Community Chest Scheme.
Friends of the Dogs has over a hundred regular volunteer dog walkers who turn out in all weathers to walk homeless and abandoned dogs in their local community. Admiral’s money paid for twenty five weatherproof coats to the charity to help the dogs against the wind, rain and cold when they’re out walking.

The school used the money to buy fabrics and materials for costumes for their December ‘The Four Seasons’. Nadine Moore, who works in Admiral’s Claims department, helps her sister Annette with the costumes.

This number is the highest ever donation from Admiral staff to this appeal, which has been co-ordinated in Admiral for over ten years by Angela Macdonald who works in the New Business department.
The number of presents donated by Admiral to this appeal has grown over the years so she has recruited many little helpers throughout Admiral to support her, including colleague Lesley Rees.
This year the large Christmas tree that stands proudly outside Cardiff Castle will be kindly donated by Admiral.
The Cardiff-based insurance specialist stepped forward after it was agreed that Christmas trees would need to be funded by sponsorship due to the budget cuts the Council faces.
Admiral have come on board and agreed to support the costs to purchase, install and remove the tree.

South Wales employer Admiral has donated over £800 through its Community Chest scheme to Superstars in the Making, a performing arts academy based in Barry, Cardiff.
Superstars in the Making is a not-for-profit academy, set up to provide high quality training in the performing arts to young people.
With the money donated, Superstars in the Making bought a good quality set for their upcoming show West Side Story, which is showing next week at the Memo Theatre, from August 20th to August 22nd 2015.
Local employer Admiral has donated over £500 to the Buzzy Bees nursery in Cwmbran, through their Community Chest scheme.
Gareth Edwards, who works in Admiral’s Claims department wanted to give something back to the nursery that his son has been attending for the last couple of years.
Community Chest provided the nursery with an outdoor kitchen, three tricycles, space hoppers, a large climbing frame and slide, plus a few other smaller items.

Philip Teasdale works in Admiral’s Customer Contact Strategy department and volunteers as a junior ice hockey coach in his spare time. He is very passionate about ice hockey and has played as an amateur throughout England and Wales.

Peter Williams works in Admiral’s Customer Services department and his son Kieron attends the primary school. He said, “The yard in Kieron’s school is very small. It is in between residential housing and there are no grass areas at all. We wanted to breathe new life into the yard and the children got very excited about it.”
Local employer Admiral has donated over £1,000 to the Lost Souls Sanctuary, near Newport, through its Community Chest scheme.
The Lost Souls Sanctuary was founded by Anne Lewis in 2011 as a home for life for dogs who have been abused, or who have behavioural problems and have nowhere else to go. Anne said “We provide a home for these dogs that often come to us badly traumatised, both physically and mentally. My vision is to turn this around and create a happily ever after safe place for all of them.”
Local employer Admiral has donated nearly £500 to buy baby safety equipment to help families in Cardiff, through the charity Home-Start.
Home-Start helps families in all sorts of situations, such as homelessness, domestic abuse, isolation, poverty and drug or alcohol addiction. The volunteers step in to help with the children, providing much needed advice and support to the parents, as well as giving them equipment the families cannot afford.
Glantawe Theatre Company in Ystradgynlais, near Swansea, received much needed equipment just in time for their January pantomime, thanks to a donation from local employer Admiral.
Becci Thomas, who works in Admiral’s Renewals department, has been a member of the Glantawe Theatre Company for ten years and taken part in over fifteen shows. The theatre company could not raise enough money to buy good quality sound and lighting equipment, but Becci knew that she could apply for funds through Admiral’s Community Chest Scheme.

Admiral donated the computers after receiving an email from Sara Arthur, who is a governor at the school, asking if Admiral had any unwanted computers available, that the school could have. Ben Moriarty who works in Admiral's Recruitment department received the email and set the ball rolling, and before long, the school had received delivery of and installed 15 refurbished computers for its pupils to use.

A woman who works in Admiral in Swansea, is raising money for Cancer Research Wales by pledging to have her head shaved by colleagues. Angela Beale-Roberts, who works in Admiral's People Services department, has been receiving donations from across the company, with the person who donates the most, getting to shave Angela's head themself.
