Reapers reap new kit
An all-female roller-derby team based in Swansea has received new kit thanks to local employer, Admiral.
The Reaper Roller Girls received the funding of £667 after player, Catherine Hook, who works in Admiral’s Ancillaries department, applied for funding from the company’s Community Chest scheme. The scheme provides funding for charities, sport teams and organisations in which staff members or their families are involved.
Catherine explains why she applied for the funding, “Roller derby is such an expensive sport with high equipment and travel costs, which is all funded by the skaters themselves. By providing the team’s kit, Admiral alleviated some of these financial strains for the girls.
“We pride ourselves on being friendly and welcoming, and now we have these new kits, it makes it even easier for new team members to get involved. Not only this, the dresses give us a sense of identity and we have received loads of compliments from other teams!”
