WRU stars open Admiral headquarters
Local employer Admiral has celebrated the official opening of its headquarters in Cardiff by Welsh rugby captain Sam Warburton and 5 other members of the team.
Sam, along with George North, Mike Phillips, Hallam Amos, Paul James and Luke Charteris joined Admiral’s CEO Henry Engelhardt to mark the official opening of the company’s headquarters, Tŷ Admiral. Representatives from many of the organisations involved in the building, including the developers Stofords, attended the event.
Following the ceremony, the rugby players took time to walk around the building to meet with the Admiral staff who work in the specially built 11 storey, 220,000sq ft office block located on David Street in Cardiff city centre.
More than 2,400 staff who were previously based in a number of offices in Cardiff moved to Tŷ Admiral between October and December 2014.
Tŷ Admiral is the biggest pre-let office project ever seen in Wales’ capital city and Admiral will lease the building for 25 years. The building is close to Cardiff’s two city centre rail stations and the bus station, and is within easy reach of local amenities. It also has an accessible roof terrace and a ‘Get Ready’ room for staff to use for nights out, plus dedicated, secure cycle storage with staff showers and lockers.
Admiral CEO, Henry Engelhardt said, “We’re delighted to official open our fantastic headquarters. Tŷ Admiral is an outstanding building for our staff to work in and we’re so grateful for the teams from within and outside of Admiral who worked tirelessly to get the building ready on time and on budget.
“To be joined by players from the Wales team to open the building is a fitting tribute to all the hard work that went into bringing this building to fruition and I’m looking forward to this being our home for many years to come.”
Sam Warburton said, “It is an honour and a privilege for myself and the other players to open Admiral’s new headquarters, and as ever we’ve loved meeting the people who work here. The support we receive from Admiral staff is always fantastic and we’re always made to feel unbelievably welcome when we visit any of the offices.”
Donna Stickells, an Admiral staff member from the Claims department said. “Tŷ Admiral is a fantastic building and a lovely environment to work in. The big windows mean it feels bright and airy, plus we have great facilities like the breakout and kitchen areas, not to mention the Get Ready room! Its location is perfect too as there’s so many shops and restaurants on our doorstep.
“To have the building opened by the Welsh rugby team was really exciting and we were over the moon they also took the time to walk around the whole office to meet everyone afterwards.”
