Our people are key to our success and we spend a lot of time listening to them to understand what is important for allowing them to thrive.
Flexible Working
As part of our commitment to be an open, supportive and inclusive workplace, we want to foster a healthy work-life balance. We have adopted a hybrid approach to work which is all about trusting our people to make the right choice in where, when and how they work. Our hybrid model allows our people and teams to have greater flexibility and control over how they work. Where possible, this includes working different hours.
In order to retain our unique culture and the sense of connection and belonging that our people value, our offices remain available for colleagues to collaborate, strengthen relationships and networks. We are focused on facilitating meaningful connections that lead to better results for our customers and colleagues.
Talent and Development
Admiral is a place Where You Can. Our Talent teams offer a range of customised training programmes and courses for colleagues, and our central training hub offers support, learning opportunities and career advice for all colleagues. We understand the importance of providing opportunities for colleagues to Grow & Progress so that our talent pipeline is fit for the future. We are proud that so many people choose to build their career with us.
Some of the opportunities we provide include:
- Global Mobility: with businesses and operations across Italy, France, Spain, North America and India, we encourage colleagues to gain experience through international projects and collaboration, and offer secondments in different areas of the Group. We created a Global Mobility Centre of Excellence to support colleagues at every step when exploring their options across the Group.
- Get Discovered: a comprehensive programme that is designed to support and nurture the development and career progression of future female leaders. The programme provides coaching, project working, interactive training and mentorship from female leaders across the Group, including our Group CEO Milena Mondini and UK Insurance CEO, Cristina Nestares.
- Leading at Admiral: Leading at Admiral is a leadership programme available to leaders at all levels globally, to develop their core leadership skills and uphold our special culture. The programme focuses on creating psychological safety, coaching and developing others, driving business outcomes, and leading with meaning.
- Learning and Development: there are countless opportunities across the Group to learn, from interactive workshops on topics such as Emotional Intelligence and Public Speaking, to on-demand training on innovative platforms like LinkedIn Learning, Pluralsight and Cornerstone. We empower colleagues to be in the driving seat of their careers and develop themselves both personally and professionally.
- UK Data Academy: the Academy was set up to provide training and development programmes in data, increase data awareness and education, and help improve diversity in the data world. Over 70 mentoring relationships have been established so far and the Academy partners with Women in Data, providing us access to their 35,000 strong Data Community.
Where You Can: Grow & Progress
Hi Luna, tell us a bit about yourself.
I have always had a passion for maths, which led me to pursue a degree in Mathematics at the University of Leeds. I found myself fascinated by statistics and started using data analysis tools such as Python and R. To enhance my skillset further and focus on data-related fields, I completed a master’s degree in Computer Science. During my masters, I found myself immersed in the world of big data, gaining profound insights and willing to make impactful contributions. This journey landed me on the Data/Analytics Graduate Programme in Admiral UK, where I am enhancing my skills to craft models and devise software solutions that help people shape their future. The scheme offers three placements, each eight months long, providing me with support, expertise, and numerous opportunities to further explore data-related fields at a growing FTSE100 company.
Tell us about your journey in Admiral so far? How has Admiral helped support and empower you in your career?
My first placement was in a data team at Admiral Money, focused on lending products. I played a pivotal role in various project aspects, from data analysis to model development. The experience enabled me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios. This flexibility not only increased my motivation and engagement but also allowed me to better perform my role and deliver impactful results.
I am currently in my second placement in the Telematics department. In this role, I oversee data visualisation and manage the automatic updates for our management information packs.
What advice would you give to women in data?
At Admiral Group, I believe women in data roles are empowered. It is a place to shine and advance your career. The women’s support networks across the business such as our Women in Tech forum, ensure colleagues have access to a supportive community and have opportunities for professional growth. I would encourage everyone to continue learning, volunteer for hands-on project experience and utilise your networks. Attending internal data skills training and applying these learnings to my role has been a catalyst to my success.
Company ownership
All of our colleagues play an important role in the Group’s success and since we floated in 2004, we have given colleagues up to £3,600 per year through our employee share scheme. We are proud to allow colleagues to benefit financially from their hard work and dedication.
